New Music Review: Sass Jordan: From Dusk 'Til Dawn
With one of the coolest names in the business, how can you not notice Sass Jordan? If you just came across Sass Jordan's website you might think she is a relatively new artist given her obvious good looks and youthful demeanour, but in fact, Sass has been on the music scene for over THIRTY years and has produced some of the most memorable and impressive rock albums to come from a female artist (and in some cases any rock artist). I know I am reviewing her new CD, From Dusk 'Til Dawn, but it would be a travesty not to mention Sass' two stellar Cds, Rats and Racine, both are amazing and must have CDs, which I think I will have to review fully in the future.
Getting back to From Dusk 'Til Dawn, Sass states that this CD was composed with the idea of what happens during the wee hours of the night, whether it be heartbreak, insomnia or anger. I must say I love this CD. While it is a different musical direction than her earlier CDs, the lyrics contain a powerful honesty that many CDs of the past few years are missing.
Standout tracks include the first single Why Did You. Definitely a highlight and is accompanied by a hilarious music video (ok ok I have to mention how hot Ms. Jordan looks in this video, putting women in their 20s to shame!). Here is the video on Youtube: Why Did You?
Love N Affection is my favorite track by far. I was taken within the first 10 seconds of the song and didn't look back. Bluesy song that takes you on a wild ride. Sass' voice has never sounded better with the undeniable rasp that engulfs you. Wait till the end to hear Sass hit notes that would put Celine to shame!
Home Again, the closing track, is one of the songs that you won't be able to get out of your head. This songs has a country feel (as do a few others) and a longing that only those that miss their home and their comfort would understand. If there is one song that needs to be put in a movie, this is it.
My review: 4.5/5
